The Beauty Box...
Proper skin care is very important in achieving a beautiful, lasting makeup look.  Start your
daily routine of facial skin care by cleansing, toning and moisturizing your skin. both in the
morning and at night.  Not only does this provide an excellent canvas to begin makeup
application, but it also makes you feel better about your skin, when you are not wearing
makeup.

What is your skin type?  How is it determined?  These question depend on heredity and
lifestyle.  Your genes determine you skin type, and hormones play a large role as well.
Glands, called sebaceous glands produce the oils in the skin.  A maturing/older person may
generally have drier skin, because these glands slow down the production of oil, while a
younger person may have oilier skin. Your lifestyle also effects your skin.  Exercise, getting
plenty of rest, having a good diet, and drinking plenty of water will improve the condition of
your skin.  To determine your skin type, ask yourself if you have any oiliness, dryness, or
signs of aging.  If you are oily all over, of course your skin type is oily.  If you are oily in the
T-zone and dry on the cheeks, you are probably combination.  If you are moderately to
extremely dry on the cheeks you have dry skin.  If you have signs of aging, more than likely
you have dry skin.

What causes pimples?  The prime cause of pimples and blackheads is usually not the
makeup but the cleansing routine.  You must be very thorough  when removing makeup at the
end of the day.  Never be tempted to go to sleep without cleansing your face.  You might also
like to add a cleansing lotion and toner to your nightly routine.  DO NOT USE SOAP.  Deep
cleansing your face will prevent your pores from becoming clogged and keeps bacteria from
growing.

Choosing an eyeshadow for your eye color
Best Eyeshadow for Brown or Hazel Eyes
Brown and hazel eyes are comparable to “earth tones” such as desert or beach sands. The shades
you’ll find accompanying these colors in nature are nudes, beiges, golds, and blues (think sand and
water) and well as green (imagine a fresh, sprouting garden). Therefore, chose the same shades in
your eyeshadow palettes.

Best Eyeshadow for Green Eyes
Green eyes are brought out by a shade that brings similar thoughts of “fortune”: gold eyeshadow. Try
shimmery and coppertone gold – gold with a tint of orange – to complement green eyes. For a truly
striking look, opt for banana or sunset orange eyeshadows depending on your skintone. You could
also try a soft pink eyeshadow with a darker pink in the crease (think the hue of pink roses).

Best Eyeshadow for Blue Eyes
Sun and sky, sand and sea, and sea and sky are all nature that come to mind when you think of blue
hues. Therefore, blue looks stunning with eyeshadow shades such as yellow-oranges, beige sand
tones, and other, deeper blue shades.

Q:How do I get rid of dark marks in my face?
                          -M. W., Phila., PA
A: Getting rid of blemishes and dark
marks will definitely take some time,
and although all marks may not
disappear completely, they may fade
considerably.  Pure, extra virgin olive
oil is great for evening out skin tone
when used at night along with a good
cleansing routine.  Pure coconut oil is
also another option.  Some fade
creams may render quicker results, but
depending on the severity of the
blemish you may be able to use
something as general as cocoa butter.
I hope this helps.
